Tiffany Austin is a versatile and soulful vocalist and composer whose mission is to create community, empathy and liberation through her music. She is an engaging and gifted storyteller, drawing audiences into the musical material, and the culture that birthed it.
A Los Angeles native, Tiffany received classical vocal training and was also deeply steeped in Black American musical art forms starting from her formative years. She has been featured at many jazz festivals/venues, toured internationally, performed with preeminent artists (Roy Ayers, Pharoah Sanders, John Handy) and her performances have been featured on radio, television and film.
She has also had features on NPR’s “Fresh Air” radio show, has received a four star review from Downbeat Magazine, and reached the top ????? in Jazz Weekly chart. Award recipient including the Zoolabs grant, Center for Cultural Power grant, and has written commission by San Jose Jazz Festival and the Oakland Symphony.
Tiffany’s strongest vocal influences are Ella Fitzgerald’s improvisation, virtuosity and ease; and Aretha Franklin’s soulfulness, fire, and versatility. She is also deeply influenced by Bjork’s artistic boldness and unbridled vocal approach.
